Facial filler may be the perfect way to correct the volume loss that occurs over time. The natural aging process results in facial wrinkles. The skin begins to loose elasticity and collagen fibers break down. There are several factors that contribute to the development of facial wrinkles and folds, including but not limited to UV exposure, repetitive facial movement, smoking, and heredity.
ArteFill is the first and only FDA-approved non-resorbable wrinkle filler for the correction of smile lines.
Excellent safety profile
How does ArteFill work?
Before your initial treatment with ArteFill, a skin test must be administered 4 weeks prior to screen for an allergy to bovine collagen. This simple skin test is performed in our office and you will be provided with a card for monitoring any adverse affects.
ArteFill® contains PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate) microspheres and purified bovine collagen gel with a local anesthetic for comfort during injection. ArteFill is a dual-acting injectable wrinkle filler that provides immediate and long lasting results. Aretfill initially corrects and fills in the wrinkle deformity, then the microspheres provide the permanent support your skin needs for long lasting wrinkle correction.
"Where the results of temporary fillers end, the enduring benefits of ArteFill® continue."
Before Artefill, other temporary dermal fillers available such as hyaluronic acid, collagen and fat, were eventually absorbed by the body and required frequent repeat injections to maintain correction.
ArteFill is different. The unique microspheres in ArteFill are not absorbed by the body. This provides the permanent support your skin needs for long-lasting wrinkle correction. Now you can get the long lasting wrinkle correction you want in just one or two ArteFill treatments, depending on the depth of the wrinkle(s).
Important Treatment Considerations for Consumers
ArteFill® is indicated for the correction of facial wrinkles known as nasolabial folds or smile lines. Some people should not receive ArteFill, including those who have a positive reaction to the ArteFill collagen skin test; have a history of severe allergies manifested by a history of anaphylaxis, or history or presence of multiple severe allergies; are allergic to the anesthetic (lidocaine); have a history of allergies to any bovine collagen products; are undergoing or planning to undergo desensitization injections to meat products; are prone to thick scar formation and/or excessive scarring.
As with any injectable wrinkle filler, you can expect mild swelling and reddening at the treatment site. These side effects are usually gone within 24 hours. If you are taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs you may experience increased bruising or bleeding at the injection sites. Patients with any skin outbreaks (e.g. cysts, pimples, rashes, hives, infection) near the injection site should postpone treatment until they clear. The safety and effectiveness of ArteFill beyond one year have not been established.
It is important that you share your medical information with your doctor. Together, you can make an informed decision as to whether ArteFill is right for you.
